Larimar


Larimar is a recently discovered sea blue gemstone from a remote mountain region in the Caribbean. The Gemological Institute of America has identified Larimar as a blue pectolite found no where else in the world.

The name Larimar was given by Miguel Mendez. a lapidary artisan who first worked with the gemstone. Lari is for Larissa, his daughter's name, and Mar is the Spanish word for sea.

These stones, which resemble the various colors of the Caribbean waters, have white crystals and red dendrites. High on the isolated mountain top, miners use only picks and shovels to work the deposits. Since the reserve of this stone is unknown, it could become more valuable with time.

Larimar is a very hard stone and is difficult to damage or scratch. 6.5-7 hardness on the Moh's Scale, 10 being the hardest.

Larimar is considered to be a very powerful gemstone. The Metaphysical aspects of this stone are: Larimar stimulates the chakras of the heart, throat, third eye, and crown facilitating inner wisdom and outer manifestation. (Outer manifestation of what you want and need in your life comes from your throat Chakra. The main power of Larimar is in the throat Chakra. The color of the throat Chakra is blue.

Also it is sometimes referred to as the 'Atlantis Stone' because some people believe it comes from the lost city of Atlantis.
